Andy Rubin responds in a single tweet to Steve Jobs' gibe that Android's openness is disingenuous:

He's right of course, except for one small point: can the phone owner do this, or only the phone company? Because if it's the latter (and it is, for some phone models), then Android is the opposite of open, from a consumer perspective. It's really the particular phone model that is open or not, not Android itself.
